William Bunting 1800-1891 Northants

I am new to Family History research, andhave just joined The Bunting Society. How I can find out more about my ancestors - is there a webpage I haven't found giving information on various Buntings and their relations?

I have worked my way back to William Bunting, born 1800 in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, using census information and Family Search (from the Church of the LDS). His daughter Mary Georgiana Bunting was my great great grandmother. Can anyone advise me what to do next?

Hello Ruth,
Welcome to the Society. By now I hope you have passed your family tree as you know it to our Record Keeper, Mary Rix. She, if anyone, will be able to give you the up to date information we have regarding quite a large tree of the Long Buckby, NTH area. Our Editor Alan (Mem. 177) is a member of that tree too. So we have people on the top and tail of the various lines.
Secretary Prue James should have sent you a copy of the Members' Interests. Toward the back of the leaflet you will find the four people who have stated an interest in the Long Buckby tree. You can then cross refer to their addresses and write to them.
I briefly looked at an old copy of our records and the Only William Bunting born circa 1800 in Long Buckby married a "Sarah" but does not appear to have produced a Mary Georgiana. Looking at the IGI that young lady appears to have been the daughter of William and Elizabeth which I assume you confirmed in Census data. Perhaps for their marriage you need to look in the "Contiguous Parishes" - those surrounding Long Buckby. Colin Allen has produced a county series of these booklets which tell you the names of the surrounding parishes. The price is between 1.50 & 2. If you had been going to the Society of Genealogists' (SoG) Fair in London next Saturday then you could have bought one there but I see you live in Bristol. The Bristol & Avon FHS probably sell them on their bookstall. Guess where they are next Saturday - at the SoG Fair!
The Long Buckby parish records are lodged in the Record Office in Northampton. A thorough search of them, not just the marriages but Banns, Poor Relief, Minute books etc. is called for. Which brings me back to a thought about Mary Rix. She holds the Guild of One Name Studies Marriage Indexes. One more thought about marriages the British Origins website has the SoG, Phillemore marriages on it but that is a pay per view site. A long epistle but I hope it gives you a starter again. Happy hunting. Michael.
