Hannah Doxey Bunting

Hannah Doxey Bunting was born about 1873 (she says) in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire.

As yet I haven't been able to track down a birth registration for her. On her marriage certificate her father was not named. I found her on the 1891 census in Bonsall, Derbyshire, living with  her grandmother Ellen Bunting (born abt 1809 in Bonsall). Ellen is a widow living on own means while 18 year old Hannah is working in the cotton mill as a factory hand.

I believe that Hannah was my great great Grandmother. Her husband was Ruebin Bunting and one of these sons-Arthur was my Grandfather who died in 1978

you mention that Hannah worked in a local Grandfather later became a manager at John Smedley Ltd at Lea Mills.most of the family are buried in the

Church at Bonsal-I know that Hannah and Ruebin are there and another son Reg along with a sister.Another son Stanley Horatio Bunting went into the Navy

and served I believe on HMS Rodney.he used to tell me stories about the battle with the Bismarck.Uncle Stan went to live in Mansfield and worked in the Mine

Industry.Ruebin was a Blacksmith by trade but I believe he may have also ran a Public House for a while.

My grandfather was married twice, his first marriage was very brief his wife died after only about 10 months, his second marriage was to Florence May Pickering

and this produced two children a girl Dorothy Jean ( my mother) borin in 1932 and a son Gerald Arthur Bunting born in 1935.

My grandparents are both buried in Wirkswoth.

Hope this is of some help.

Ellen Anne Watson, born 18 Dec 1900 in Darley Dale, Derbyshire, was the daughter of Frederick Aubrey Watson and Hannah Doxey Bunting. They had one other daughter, Ethel Florence Kate Jane Watson. who, when she married in 1942, gave her age as 36 but I have yet to find her birth in the register.

On her marriage certificate in 1899 Hannah gives her age as 25 which gives an approximate birth year of about 1874. The space for her father's details has lines drawn through.

No you are wrong I'm afraid.  You have the wrong people.  Hannah was my grandmother . Her mother was Ellen bunting and father was Joseph simpson ,a musician.   She was born illegitimately but her mother put the father's name on the birth certificate.  She was brought up by her grandparents Bejamin Bunting and Ellen Doxey, and always called herself Hannah Doxey Bunting.   She married  Frederick Aubrey Watson and gave birth to my mother on 24/6/1906.  Ethel Watson.
