Jabez Bunting

I am  looking for any information on Jabez Bunting born about  1831. He emigrated to Australia sometime before 1855.

He married  Caroline Broomfield, 21 August 1855, Unitarian Church, Sydney, NSW, Australia. His place of birth as marked on his daughter Pricilla's birth certificate is Sheffield, England. He was a tailor.  Any info that would help me move further back would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping someone has him on a branch of their Bunting tree.

many thanks

Dear Cheryl,

I am disappointed that no one seems to have replied to your enquiry, in October last year, about Jabez whom I see you mention was born in my home town of Sheffield. Sadly I can't claim a relationship even though his Father had the same christian name, Robert, as my Great Grandfather. They were just born years apart. However someone, it may be you, has provided our Record Keeper, Mary Rix, with quite a lot of information about the children of Jabez, including Priscilla. Was that you? We go no further back than the parents of Jabez. When Mary Rix returns from Australia herself, in mid March, I will ask her about the source. In the meantime do you have a subscription to the "Find My Past" pay per view website? It is possible that that the whole family may be on their Passenger lists as the sister of Jabez was born in Sydney.

I await your response which I hope is quicker than that of me to you! Mary Rix's e-mail contact address may be found on the "About Us" page in the header above, should you wish to write to her direct.

Thankyou for your reply Michael.

I have been fortunate enough to find out some more information on Jabez since my post in October. I didnt have his parents names so I dont know who has provided that information. Jabez emigrated with his family to Australia on the ship Brothers in 1841. He was about 6 yrs old. According to the passenger list his parents were Robert and Lucy, there was also an older brother John.  Also on the same ship was Ely Buting and his wife Mary and their baby Robert Bunting. Im not sure if the 2 families are related.

Eli and Mary Bunting, who migrated to Sydney in 1840, are my 2x great grandparents. From my research in Sheffield, I have found that Eli's parents were Robert and Hannah Bunting, who were living in Regent St Sheffield in the 1841 Census, and both lived there until their deaths.  Their only other child I could find was Abner Bunting, who died in Sheffield in 1841, aged 27.  I would be interested if you have found any connection between Jabez, Robert and Lucy Bunting and my Bunting family.

I spoke to you a few years back when I first started researching my Bunting family.

I gave you the Australian descendents but now have them back to Lancashire in 1800

would be pleased to pass on my info if you want more.

Thankyou for your reply Diane. It sounds like we are on the same line. I would be interested in any information you have going back to Lancashire.

Kind regards
