Charles Bunting - Norfolk

Does anyone know anything about a Charles Bunting who married Susannah Bramble in 1811 in Oulton, Norfolk?  They spent some time in Cumberland County, North Carolina around 1820 with their son William (b.1808) and then returned to Norfolk.  Charles had died before the 1841 census.

Dear Jill,

I am sorry but our Record Keeper is in Australia for another month. Having looked at the Society back up record I could find only one William born circa 1807 in the Oulton area of Norfolk. No parents were shown.

I was puzzled by your enquiry about Sarah Bramble having married Charles in 1811 in Oulton, Norfolk as you had stated that William was born in 1808. Was the latter the son of Charles or Sarah from a previous marriage or liason? Have you looked at the "Find My Past", pay per view site, for the family group being on  Passenger lists to the USA?

Thank you for your reply.  I have just looked at findmypast but it seems to me that their relevant emigration information does not go back as far as 1820, unless I am misunderstanding it.

I can confirm that William was born in Oulton in 1808 and that his parents were Susannah Bramble and Charles Bunting.  Charles was the subject of a bastardy bond in relation to William.  Charles and Susannah eventually married in Oulton in 1811 but both Susannah and William often still went by the name of Bramble.

Dear Jill,

Re - William 1808. As I mentioned our records have a William b.1807, born in Oulton, also listing his wife Mary and their children which suggests to me that it may have been a census record extract, probably from 1851. Until Mary returns from Australia to identify the source we seem to be stuck on that piece of information.

Prior to the full introduction of passports there used to be permits to travel abroad and these records are normally to be found at The National Archives (TNA). I suppose it is possible that there may be some copies at Norwich too.

Is there anything else on this Bastardy Bond about Charles? Is he described as single. Was he self employed? Was his age given? Was William born in the workhouse? By the way the Society would appreciate having a copy of the bond.

How did you discover that Charles and Susannah had travelled to and in America?

Michael.

Thank you for your reply, and also to Tony for his input.

Yes, William and Mary and the children are the correct family.  Incidentally, they are often listed as Bramble rather than Bunting as the whole family went by either name for many years.

I do not have a copy of the Bastardy Bond but will try to get one from the person who originally gave me the information.

I found a record some years ago on the internet for Charles Bunting, Susannah Bramble and their son William Bramble being in Cumberland County, North Carolina in 1820.  It wouldn't print so I copied down the information, but unfortunately not the website!  I have, frustratingly, not been able to find any reference to it since.

Thank you for your interest.   Jill

Whoops sorry I typed the date wrong! it should have been 10th November 1811.

The previous post should have read:

Charles Bunting married Susannah Bramble on 10 November 1811 in Oulton, Norfolk but  you may already know the date. I am afraid I cannot help you further.

This tree is now available to Society Members on this site. The tree is called NFK Oulton. The origins of Charles have still not been found.
