Buntings of Little Barrington

Looking for the Bunting family of Gloucestershire. Thomas Bunting married Mary Eden in 1873 in Little Barrington and migrated to the USA shortly after. Thomas may have been born in Warwick in 1848 or1849.

Dear Beverley,

Whilst the Society has a reference to the marriage from the General Register Office of the marriage of Thomas and Mary in the North Leach registration district your specific address of Little Barrington seems to imply that you have a copy of the marriage certificate or a parish marriage record. Does your information give the name of Thomas' father?

There is a Thomas birth in the Chipping Norton which is a possibility being about the right time and a distance of about 14miles from the Barringtons. Warwickshire I am doubtful about unless you are quite certain.

Even closer is a birth at Leafield, OXF.

Our Record Keeper, Mary Rix, returns from her Australian holiday next week so I will alert her to your enquiry as she has the up to date records.

Michael.

Dear Michael,

In looking back through my notes, I have found several references to records held by the LDS Church. I have not yet gotten over to their local research center to view the originals. I do have the following reference numbers:

6911753 - Marriages, A thru Z, 1600-1885 (Thomas Bunting, Mary Eden 13 NOV 1873)

0933365 - Christening: MAR 1847 Saint Nicholas, Warick, Warick, England (son of Thomas and Elizabeth Bunting) I don't know if this is my gg-grandfather's record.

My Greatgrandfather's (Frank Bunting) Marriage certificate which I have lists his parents as Thomas Bunting and Mary Eden. When I had a subscription to Ancestry.com I was able to find them on US Census 1900 & 1910. From that I found an immigration record that may be Thomas and Mary - New York Passenger List 1820-1957 arriving 30 MAY 1874. Below the names of Thomas and Mary are listed Emily Eden and Annie Eden. I thought that perhaps these were sisters of Mary.

My niece said she found the Edens on an English Census for Little Barrington, Gloucestershire but I have not found that record. I will try to get a copy from my niece.

Thanks for your help. If there is a way for me to send copies of what I have, I would be happy to do so.

Beverly

Dear Beverly

Having looked at Mary Eden's family on the UK FreeCen and Free BMD I was diasppointed to find Thomas Bunting was not as easy to Identify. Have you found them on the "Find My Past" passenger records,on the USA Cendus or US Immigration records?

How about sharing with the Society the data you have on them so that what we lack from our members in following Thomas' family and siblings can be given a kick start by you?

Michael.

Good Day,

I would be happy to share what little information I have. I have an immigration manifest that shows Thomas and Mary Bunting and two passengers who may be Mary Eden's sisters. I will have to go through my notebook to see if I actually have copies of their marriage. My niece found the information on the LDS site but I haven't gotten over to the research center to look at the actual document. I'm new to this. Is there a way so include pictures of the documents that I do have?

Dear Beverly

Do you or your niece have a scanner? if so you can attach a file of the scanned image to and e-mail.

You would probably have to e-mail me direct under the "vicechair" link inorder for your browser to be suitable. I will ask webmaster, Jerry, if we can do it simply on this system of correspondence.

Michael.

This interesting paper on Little Barrington paper mill mentions Buntings, paper makers, in 1832, 1835, 1837 and 1840. The paper mill closed down and was sold in 1845.
