I have never seen a marriage certificate like this before. What a lovely idea, to be able to see the church you were married in every time you look at your marriage certificate.

Our back cover this time is not a Bunting home, but a home for many Buntings. It is the village of BONSALL. It is an area where the lead has been mined since Saxon times. It was a Saxon thane named Bunt who was rewarded for military service with a piece of land here that gave Bonsall its name.

The Bunting family tree was rooted in this area by this settler 1300 years ago. By Norman times Bunteshale, meaning Bunt's corner of land, had expanded into a hamlet and was spelt Bonteshall. This spelling continued until the 1600s. Many Buntings still live in the village and do not realise that they are related!

I visited this village a few years ago and found that the churchyard is full of Buntings. There are still Bunting lead miners today! Julie Bunting (from the Buntingfield tree) wrote about "Bonsall's Charm" in the Peak Advertiser and included the back-cover picture with her article.

It was the family home of one branch of the Bunting family who descend from Thomas Bunting of Tolleshunts in Tolleshunt D'Darcy. The Goldhanger connection seems to have started with the marriage of John Bunting to Sarah Wakelin in 1881. The house seems to have been in the hands of descendants of this couple ever since. There is a branch of the Bunting family farming in Goldhanger to this day.
